Our conservation bleaching brush has been specially designed for the accurate application of bleaches and enzymes, without the risk of causing long term damage to objects.
Bleaching using a brush with a standard metal ferrule will deposit metal ions in the paper. Bleach oxidises the metal while you are bleaching, allowing soluble metal ions to enter the solution. These metal ions will be deposited in the paper along with the bleach and can catalyse degradation of the cellulose.
Similarly, enzyme solutions can become inhibited by tiny quantities of metal ions. Our conservation bleaching brush has been specially designed for the accurate application of bleaches and enzymes, without the risk of causing long term damage or inactivating your enzyme solution.
The 6mm synthetic bristles and detachable handle (ferrule pushes on) are ideal for close up work, localised application of enzymes, and for spotting bleaches when making aesthetic restorations to works of art on paper.
