Suggested steps for use:

  1. Clean the area to be repaired gently using the dry cleaning sponge. Brush away any loose particles. Lay a sheet of blotting paper (thick material) on your clean work surface. On top of the blotting paper, place a sheet of Bondina (thinner material) as an isolation layer.
  2. Place the item to be repaired on top of the two sheets. Cut/tear the required amount of Tengu Gummed tissue being careful to take note of the inside of the roll which has the adhesive coating.
  3. Tengu Gummed repair tissue can be cut to shape using a knife or create a feathered edge using the waterbrush for a more discreet edge to the repair. Shorten the width of the repair tissue if it is too wide. Once the repair tissue is cut to size, place it with the adhesive side facing up onto a clean surface, like a sheet of polyester, ceramic or glass plate.
  4. To reactivate the pre-coated adhesive on the repair tissue, a small amount of water is required. Using the waterbrush, gently moisten the tissue. Too little moisture will inhibit adhesion. Too much can wash adhesive off the tape and reduce adhesion. Carefully lift the repair tissue with tweezers and place it onto the area to be repaired.
  5. Place a piece of Bondina over the repair and lightly burnish with a bone folder for adhesion. Carefully lift the Bondina and ensure complete adhesion.
  6. Re-place the Bondina and place blotting paper over onto the repair site. Place a weight onto the blotting paper and leave to dry.

If you are unfamiliar with the process it is recommended to consult a professional conservator. Please test first to ensure suitability and confidence with process before attempting any repair.
